The rentree

The word "La Rentree" is common usage in France to describe the
return to school after the summer break, the beginning of the new school year.

They have all left us now.
Departed to their different abodes.
The hubbub's over and
Silence takes its place, hanging like a stone.
The holidays have past. The children gone.

We tidy now to clear away the mess
Of toys, and games, disorder they had left
Spread on carpets, under chairs,
The model cars and the doll's shop wares.
And
As we put away the toys now they have gone,
So has the summer put away the sun.
