Yesterday you told me

Yesterday you told me clearly
That all was soon to cost me dearly.
That all our dreams, our hopes and such
Were now no longer worth too much.

Then like a creep I craved your pardon,
Washed the dishes, mowed the garden,
Fetched the kids and washed the car
(In fact I think I went too far.)

Then came forgiveness, sweetness, light
And happy making up last night
Till all our anger washed away.
But that…. but that was yesterday,
That was.
